About the Creator
Background and Experience
I'm Paul Kelly, a Child of Deaf Adults (CODA) and the creator of Strong ASL. Growing up with deaf parents, an uncle, and two adopted cousins, American Sign Language was my first language. This upbringing deeply rooted me in the deaf community and culture.
Professional Expertise
I've been a nationally certified sign language interpreter since 2009, with experience in various settings including healthcare, legal, and entertainment. In 2018, I worked as a sign language coach for Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson in the movie "Rampage".
Transition to AI and Technology
In 2019, I began exploring coding and artificial intelligence, leading to the creation of SignLanguageAI.com in 2021. This project combines my interpreting expertise with technology to enhance sign language accessibility.
Strong ASL
Launched in December 2023, Strong ASL offers a comprehensive sign language dictionary with over 2,600 signs, articles about sign language, and AI-powered sign language practice tools. As the creator, I personally vet all content on the site to ensure accuracy and quality.
Ongoing Commitment
I'm dedicated to expanding Strong ASL's resources, focusing on developing more sign language lessons and improving our AI practice capabilities. My goal is to make sign language learning accessible and effective for everyone.
